when the decision was made to open Sweet Cakes.
Rebecca is a self taught cake decorator and baker. She grew up in an
artistic family that emphasized creativity. Her mother encouraged arts and
crafts projects and filled the home with hand made decorations. Her father
drew with colored pencils and ink markers, he also carved 3-D animals out
of blocks of wood. She uses her creative background to create imaginative
and unique designs. Hector, like Rebecca, is also self taught. He has
learned to bake and to successfully run a business.
They met while working together in 1998 and have been inseparable ever
since. They are interested in travel, outdoor activities and have a shared love
of all things Disney.
Together they run the business and it is a true partnership and family
operated bakery. Rebecca is the lead cake designer and decorator. Hector
is a baker and decorator. Rebecca's mother is a member of the Sweet
Cakes team, she is a baker, organizer, concerned mom and she cleans up
after everyone,
It was during a family BBQ that  the idea came about to start making cakes
for other people in addition to family and friends. Rebecca had made the
cake for the party and everyone in attendance began discussing the
possibility of opening a bakery. Excited with the idea Hector began posting
pictures of cakes that Rebecca had made on the Internet. The response was
overwhelming and very positive. What started as a just a curious thought has
developed into a rewarding business venture.
